The weighing scale tampering guard (WSTG) is a scale add on module intended to protect an electronic weighing scale from being tampered by unscrupulous persons. Tampering of weighing scales and systems is a known fraud carried out by persons intending to financially benefit by either manipulating the scale to either over or under weigh

Ordinarily a trade weighing scale is normally sealed by an inspector of weights and measures after it is verified and certified as weighing accurately. The seal protects the scale from being tampered with. However, this seal does not deter unscrupulous persons from tampering with the scale. The smartest of these fraudsters breaks the seal, enables scale calibration mode and calibrates the weighing scale either to over weigh or under weigh.   For example if the fraudster wants a gain of 1Kg then a value of 11kg would be entered in the calibration known weight value step as 10Kg instead of 11kg with the known weight placed on the scale having a weight of 10kg. A physical inspection would definitely reveal the malpractice but this would ONLY be done if there was evidence or suspicion the scale has been tampered with.   A physical inspection would definitely reveal the malpractice but this would ONLY be done if there was evidence or suspicion the scale has been tampered with . The fraud collaboration involved in the tampering of the scales ensures, the practice thrives unabated.

The objective of The weighing scale tampering guard (WSTG) is to facilitate immediate taking action whenever an illegal tampering is done by having an alert electronically sent to a person responsible for monitoring such illegal activities via hypertext transfer protocol(HTTP) , short message system(SMS) and email.
